Battery System Configurations

Use this page to understand the two common battery layouts: a dual-battery system with an isolator, and a larger battery bank with busbars and equal-length links.

Dual Battery With Isolator

Rules That Matter

  1. Keep battery interconnects equal length and equal gauge.
  2. Fuse each battery or branch where the conductor leaves the bank.
  3. Use one clean negative strategy instead of random grounds everywhere.
  4. Do not add more battery without checking the charging path and alternator support.
