Native discrete center
A source or decoded program contains a center channel. Preserve its identity, level, metadata or downmix context, and fallback behavior.
A center loudspeaker needs a defined signal role. Native center content, an immersive renderer output, factory prompts, and a stereo-derived center are different sources and cannot share one undocumented recipe.
A source or decoded program contains a center channel. Preserve its identity, level, metadata or downmix context, and fallback behavior.
An immersive renderer maps bed or object content to the center role for the active speaker layout.
A documented matrix uses left and right contributions. Correlated content, coefficients, bandwidth, and headroom must be calculated and measured.
Calls, navigation, chimes, alerts, ANC, active sound, or other vehicle functions may share the physical speaker or amplifier channel.
For identical in-polarity left and right signals, the center result depends on the coefficient applied to each input:
| Coefficient per input | Identical coherent result relative to one input | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 1.000 | +6.02 dB | requires explicit headroom; usually too much for a simple derived center |
| 0.707 | +3.01 dB | constant-power panning context, not an automatic unity mono sum |
| 0.500 | 0 dB | unity relative to one identical input |
Real stereo material varies in correlation and level. Measure the intended program and reserve headroom for coherent content, processing, and downstream analog limits.
| Check | Evidence |
|---|---|
| signal identity | native, rendered, derived, prompt, call, alert, or mixed role |
| electrical headroom | matrix coefficients, maximum internal level, DAC and amplifier limits |
| driver safety | bandwidth, voltage, limiter, distortion, excursion, and thermal behavior |
| acoustic integration | left-center-right magnitude, phase, impulse, crossover sum, and distortion |
| spatial result | image position, focus, width, motion, height, and front-row stability |
| vehicle functions | calls, prompts, alerts, source changes, mute, key cycle, and sleep recovery |
It can improve front-image stability when the signal, bandwidth, geometry, and level are correct. It can also narrow the stage, color correlated content, create interference, or overload a small dash driver.
