SPL-Specific Modifications
Structural reinforcement:
SPL vehicles at 160+ dB experience physical vibration that can crack windows, loosen bolts, and flex body panels. Reinforcement is mandatory:
Windshield bracing: - Steel tube frame around windshield perimeter - Bolted to A-pillars and roof - Prevents glass from shattering under pressure
Door reinforcement: - Additional latches (aftermarket competition latches) - Steel bars across door panels - Prevents doors from opening during run
Roof bracing: - Steel tubing from front to rear roof rails - Prevents roof from flexing upward (cabins expand under pressure)
Floor bracing: - Steel plate or tubing under carpet - Prevents floor from bowing downward
Weight considerations:
SPL systems are heavy. Competition builds add: - 200–600 lbs batteries - 100–300 lbs amplifiers - 200–500 lbs enclosure and drivers - 100–200 lbs electrical wiring and distribution - Total added weight: 600–1600 lbs typical
Suspension upgrades: - Heavy-duty springs or coilovers - Adjustable shocks - Air suspension (allows lowering for show, raising for driving)
